Culinary Institute of America, Hyde Park, NY

For years I had wanted to improve myself by completing a course at the Culinary Institute of America but it was only a dream because of my shaky financial situation. When I learned that study grants were available I jumped at the chance, hoping that someone would have enough faith in me, to bestow one on me.

When I heard that I had been successful I was ecstatic, to say the least. Finally I would be able to realise a long-time dream. Not only would I be able to complete the course I had been aching to do, but I would not have to worry about the financial burden I would be left with, since the study grant was just enough to make things right.

This study grant has changed my life. My perspective on life and more specifically, my work has changed drastically. I have always been a laid back type of person, always feeling a little left behind but after going to the Culinary Institute at Greystone, I am now a changed person. There I learned that I am on par with reference to my skills and I also strengthened some of my weaknesses. Now every time a challenge comes along, I am first to offer myself or to offer solutions and alternatives. Furthermore, I have been able to teach some of my new skills to my fellow co-workers and to share many new ideas. Still, this opportunity has made me hungrier, for there is much to be learnt – I must return.

Now let me take the time to say to the generous persons who make the resources available for the study grants, a humble thank you, for without you none of this would have been possible. Take pride in your effort, it was not in vain for I am a different person having received the opportunity to better myself and in turn help some of my colleagues. Please continue with your generosity because despite the difficult economic times, improvement in our tourism product can only be beneficial whether now or in the distant future. Thank you once again from the bottom of my gratuitous heart.
