Barbados

Grant

Bachelors in Tourism Management

The University of the West Indies, Centre for Hotel and Tourism Management

Nassau, the Bahamas

The acquisition of this study grant from the CTO allowed me to complete this program with financial peace of mind.  Not only did it cover each semester fee during my tenure but also provided the capital needed to purchase required text for myself and others.  As a student living and studying abroad, this grant allowed me to use my finances towards other living expenses pertinent to me living overseas.

I count it a distinct honor and privilege to be a recipient of such a grant.  The CTO as an organization clearly understands the importance of investing in the future labor force of the tourism and hospitality industry which acts as the main income earner for many economies across the region.  This shows that they not only talk the talk, that is, spew rhetoric about supporting our young people, but that they indeed walk the walk by investing their resources in making sure that we are fully exposed to the knowledge needed to succeed in bettering our individual, local and regional tourism stakes thus satisfying the goal of making the islands of the Caribbean, the tourism destination of choice in the world.

I am currently based in Toronto, Canada as a Business Development Officer of the Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc.  My major responsibility is to generate more tourism business for Barbados through the exposure of our product to the trade and consumers alike in the Canadian Market.
