Dear CTO Scholarship Foundation,
The remarkable investment made by the Caribbean Tourism Organization through its Scholarship Foundation is essential, and the value it brings to the region’s tourism product cannot be understated.
I am truly honoured to have been selected as the recipient of the Bonita Morgan Memorial Scholarship for 2020. Receiving this award has renewed my commitment to achieving my educational and professional goals, particularly in pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Tourism and Hospitality Management at the University of the West Indies, Open Campus. Financing a first degree is no small feat, and this scholarship has gone a long way in defraying the costs associated with that pursuit.
Upon completion of my studies, I intend to apply the knowledge, attitudes, and skills I’ve acquired—alongside my background as an educator—to develop tourism curricula for both primary and secondary students on my island. A key outcome of these programmes will be to foster a sense of pride in and ownership of our tourism industry among young learners.
It is also my aim to explore strategic ways through which underserved communities can improve their quality of life and earn a sustainable income through various avenues within the tourism sector. I firmly believe that, through education and purposeful action, we can collectively reposition tourism—not merely as an industry to be managed, but as a powerful tool to address some of the most critical issues affecting Dominica and the wider region.
With sincere thanks,
Antonia Pierre
